Support Cardinal United – Become a Guardian of the Game!
Cardinal United is calling on dedicated parents and guardians to help ensure our matches run smoothly—even when official referees are unavailable. By becoming a certified “Guardian of the Game” through the Indiana Soccer Guardian Program, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our teams on the field.
What is the Guardian Program?
The Guardian Program, also known as the Club Assistant Referee (Club AR) initiative, was developed by the Indiana Soccer Association and the Indiana State Referee Association to address the shortage of referees across youth and adult soccer leagues. This program ensures that games can continue even when officiating crews are short-staffed due to unforeseen circumstances.
What Does a Guardian Do?
As a Guardian, you'll assist by performing basic officiating tasks such as
Signaling when the ball goes in and out of play
Indicating corner kicks and goal kicks
Importantly, Guardians are not responsible for making calls on fouls, offsides, or other complex decisions. Your role is to support the game, not to replace professional referees.
How to Get Started
Becoming a Guardian is straightforward:
Register through the Indiana Soccer Association.
Watch a brief 13-minute instructional webinar.
Complete a 10-question quiz to confirm your understanding.
Upon successful completion, you'll be certified as a “Guardian of the Game” and ready to support our teams when needed. Indiana Soccer
